About the Workshop

Are you over 55? You stay fit. You watch your diet. You are socially active. You are financially sound. You engage in many activities that give you pleasure and help your community. You believe you are satisfying the tried and true needs to live a healthy life as you age.

However, research in the field of aging shows that staying fit, social activity and engagement are not necessarily a guarantee to experience life satisfaction and overall well-being as you age. Because meeting these needs depend greatly on external conditions and your environment.

As we age, we are fully aware of how external conditions and our environment are subject to constant flux, uncertainty, and unpredictability that is different from our younger years. Physical impediments, illnesses, moving to another place, losses of friends or significant others, unexpected expenses; to name a few of the situations we face make meeting these needs challenging.

The good news is that research in the field also shows that as we age, a set of internal needs emerge. If we are aware of these needs and learn how to meet them, we are mainly guaranteed the fulfillment of high levels of life satisfaction and overall well-being for the rest of our lives, independently of our external environment and our physical condition.

But these internal needs involve using very new and distinctive skills from those we are accustomed using to satisfy the needs subject to external conditions. Understanding and applying these skills will allow you to continue experiencing life satisfaction and enjoy overall well-being for as long as you live.
